Noemi Diamonds takes sustainability goals seriously. Therefore, we inform our customers about the origin of our diamonds with every diamond and jewelry product.
Sustainability is a process. It begins with the efforts our selected diamond sources make in terms of environmental protection. We know the origin of our diamonds because we do everything that we can to trace its way back to the mining. On this page, customers can find more information about the origin of diamonds and which measures our sources take to meet environmental and social goals.
We buy our diamonds directly at sightholders.
What are sightholders? Those are diamond cutting & polishing companies and diamond wholesalers, having an appointment with a specific mine. They usually buy large contingents of rough diamonds. Sightholders have to pass on several rigorous criteria, such as ethical behavior, a flawless reputation, and 100% transparent digital payments audited by third parties. We have arrangements with sightholders of Alrosa, the Russian mining company, Canadian sightholders and, for Pink Diamonds, Rio Tinto. The compliance is monitored on a continuous base.
Selected diamond mines are on their way to 100% renewable energy use.
The Russian mining company Alrosa is a Public Joint Stock Company. As such, PriceWaterhouseCoopers(PWC) Moscow researches its efforts in serving environmental and social goals in a yearly audit.
Alrosa publishes its results on their website with informational reports, available to the public. Alrosa states that the total amount of energy used for the production of diamonds is currently more than 90% from renewable sources.
Investments for social and environmental issues scale up.
Besides energy use, the industry needs to address other issues. The PWC audit comes for the year 2016-2018 to definite conclusions.
According to the auditors, Alrosa is outperforming the industry in terms of social community investment, gender balance at the workplace, water consumption and recycling, environment expenditures, and energy-saving, among others.

Canada is focusing on the protection of natural wildlife.
Canadamark is a certification that aims to give customers security respectful about respectful mining. All mines taking part in the Canadamark program must meet strict environmental goals and policies. Canada has stringent environmental laws, and third parties audit the certification process. The Northwest Territories have a fragile ecosystem connected by water parks and reserves. The impact of mining on the food chain and population of wildlife is part of the TBL (Triple bottom line) standard. Wildlife populations must not fall under specific benchmarks. The TBL standard is the base for a high standard national legislation and sets itself apart from international standards.

Argyle mine: Closing a diamond mine means restoring and protecting Nature
The Rio Tinto Argyle mine for Pink Diamonds is close to a giant freshwater- ecosystem called Lake Argyle. Its location is in the North-Western part of Australia in the remote East- Kimberley region. The Lake Argyle was part of the Ord River irrigation system for watering hundreds of square kilometers of farmland for rice. In the 1970 years, a long dam was erected which formed the lake. Since then, a fantastic variety of wildlife has established there, from crocodiles to fish and birds. Closing the mine will bring responsibility for preventing any damage and post-mining pollution to the ecosystem. The region enjoys eco-tourism along with the many islands, beaches, and attractive water- sports activities in this area.
